Shirley Parsons is working exclusively with a growing waste management business on this newly created role. We are seeking a dynamic leader who can create a proactive safety culture, generating a consistent approach to HSEQ excellence across the business. Our client is going through an exciting period of growth, with sites throughout South Australia, NSW, and WA. As a key part of the SLT, you will report to the CEO, addressing both the strategic and operational HSEQ goals of the business.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who wants to make a genuine and lasting contribution to organisational safety performance.

Having previously worked in a high-risk environment, you’ll be a proven change agent, able to lead people and drive engagement. Ideally based in Adelaide with the bulk of the leadership team, there is the option to also work out of Newcastle or Perth.

Suitable candidates must have the right to work in Australia.

Key responsibilities:

  • Promote safety, environmental, and quality awareness
  • Develop working relationships with operational leaders to implement safety initiatives and drive continuous improvement
  • Report to CEO, providing organizational HSEQ governance
  • Design, develop, and implement the group-wide HSEQ strategy
  • Integrate and streamline safety systems and processes
  • Line manage the regional HSEQ team, providing clear direction and professional development
  • Embrace innovation and ways in which to enhance the waste industry to become best in class
  • Provide cross-state legislative guidance and expertise
  • Mentor, support, and train colleagues at all levels of the business
  • Regular travel to sites throughout the country

The Group HSEQ Manager will have:

  • 7-10 years’ experience in Health and Safety with exposure to high-risk sectors (civil construction, mining, transport, waste management, etc.)
  • Able to operate at a strategic level, providing clear guidance and direction
  • Resilient and emotionally intelligent, able to build effective relationships at all levels
  • Possess a pragmatic and modern approach to H&S Management
  • Experience working cross-state, understanding variations in legislation
  • Genuine team player and inspirational people leader
  • Preferably tertiary level Health and Safety qualified
